Why SEO is better than paid search: SEO VS PAID SEARCH
2 Unique Votes
Paid search marketing is a quick and easy way to get listed on Google and other search engines for keywords that are related to your business. Unfortunately, paid search marketing is also very expensive. Search engine optimization (SEO) can help you to save money while getting more targeted visitors at the same time.
What is the difference between SEO and paid search marketing?
SEO (search engine optimization) concentrates on the regular “organic” results on Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines. If your website is listed in the regular results, you don’t have to pay for each click.
If you use paid search marketing to advertise your website on search engines, you pay for every click. Your website will appear in the “sponsored results” section of the search results page.
First SEO advantage: it provides lasting results
Paid search marketing is great because it provides quick results. You will get the first visitors minutes after the launch of your paid search campaign. Unfortunately, you won’t get any more visitors as soon as you stop paying.
To achieve high rankings in the organic search results, you have to develop good web pages and good links that point to your site. It takes much longer to get high rankings with SEO. Fortunately, most websites keep their rankings for a long time.
In the long run, SEO is a much better value than paid search marketing. If you have a business that is meant to stay, SEO is the way to go.
Second SEO advantage: you’re forced to improve your website
If you use paid search marketing, your website will get visitors because you pay for them. With SEO, you get website visitors because your website is good.
If you use SEO to promote your website, you are forced to optimize your web pages: the content, the usability, etc. Although this requires more work, your website and your revenue will benefit greatly from these changes.
Third SEO advantage: it integrates with social media
Social media can help you to increase the number of links that you get from other sites, which will result in higher rankings in Google’s regular results: create a new page on your website, then mention it on Facebook or tweet about your new page.
You will get new visitors through social media sites and some of these visitors will link to your website, which has a positive influence on your SEO campaigns.
Paid search marketing is great if you need to build website visitors immediatly. If you want to get high rankings that last without paying for every single click, use SEO to promote your site. At the end of the day, SEO has a much better return-on-investment.

Credibility is an important ranking factor. The more credible a website is, the better it will rank on Google. How do search engines measure the credibility of a website and what can you do to improve the credibility of your own site?
A) Proven elements that influence the credibility of your website
There are several elements that search engines have been using for a long time to determine the credibility of a website:
Backlinks: the links that point to your website greatly contribute to the trustworthiness of your site. If your website has mainly automatically created low quality links then this won’t have a positive effect on your rankings. Links from reputable websites will have a positive effect on the credibility of your own site. You’re better off having one link from a website with a Google Page Rank of 5, than 20 links from sites with a Page Rank of 1. Always check the Page Rank of site before requesting a backlink.
Links to other websites: if your website contains a lot of links to irrelevant websites then this can have a negative influence on the credibility of your site. If your website mainly offers affiliate links or if many of the links to other websites are broken then this might also have a negative influence. We’ve found if you have LOT of links to low quality websites it can bring down YOUR Page Rank, as well we’ve found the likely hood of you have a link to a 404 Error Page (page down) is more likely.
Error-free pages: search engines won’t find your website trustworthy if it contains a lot of errors. Your web pages shouldn’t contain broken links or missing images. A lot of spelling mistakes can also be a sign of a low quality website. Be sure to PROOFREAD your pages, and if you’re using WordPress get the Broken Link Checker Plugin.
Many website visitors: Google has many ways to track the number of visitors that a website gets (Chrome, Analytics, etc.). A website that gets many visitors seems more trustworthy than a website with only a few visitors. – I call this “The Cart Before The Horse” effect; Get more visitors and Google will rank you higher. Really?
Good web page navigation: a clear website navigation that makes it easy to find pages is an indicator of a good website. If people find what they’re looking for on your web pages, search engines will give these pages a boost. In addition, a good website structure helps search engines to index all of your pages. Along with having a sitemap.xml for the GoogleBot, you should also have a SiteMap for your website on the front end like this one: SiteMap – Built using a simple sitemap builder plugin for WordPress.
B) New elements that can influence the credibility of your website
In addition to the proven elements above, there are some new elements that influence the credibility of your site.
The number of social mentions: the more often your web pages are mentioned on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other social media websites, the more credible your website can be.Of course, only real mentions from real people will have a positive influence. Fake likes and mentions might have a negative influence.
Verified authorship: web pages with a verified author that has a good reputation can get better rankings on Google. At this time, the effect of a verified authorship on the rankings of your website seems to be low.
A credible website is important if you want to have a successful online business. In addition to higher rankings on Google and other search engines, people tend to buy much more on credible websites.
Video: What does Google think about “Search Engine Optimization”

It’s SEO Day here at MHS and I haven’t really done any homework for today’s posts so I decided to go through some older Matt Cutts’ videos and found this interesting one to share. While SEO may be a tired term, overused, underrated etc… it’s really more of what YOU think of it to be, because it is more than just link building and playing with keyword tools.
Hear what Google’s Matt Cutts has to say about the term “Search Engine Optimization“, and should we change it?
Our best is in basic construction for High Search Engine Rankings. Along with building a solid foundation, you need to be sure to call CMP and your local water provider to get your basic utilities hooked up.
If you do it right, search engine optimization is not that difficult. Did I just say that? No, I meant it’s really hard and you should call us immediately with your credit card. OK, it’s really not that difficult, at least for me, but you do need to have a set of plans, the right resources, sub contractors, and you may need some financing. Our SEO team here at MHS could be considered the General Contractor of SEO, where we handle everything, in the end you get the keys.
Do the right things in the right order and your website will get the rankings it deserves. Unfortunately, many webmasters try to build the house without laying the foundation. It’s a methodical order of business that done correctly will result in something that will last and you can build upon in the future.
First things first: High Search Engine Rankings Need to be BUILT
Social media can have a positive influence on your rankings, you could consider Facebook as your CMP (power provider), they add some power to your foundation. Backlinks are also very important, like your local water supply, they add flow, inbound flow that is. Both factors, however, won’t help your website if your search engine optimization campaign lacks a solid foundation.
The following pyramid shows search engine optimization factors sorted by importance:
1. On-page optimization – The Foundation
Optimizing the content of your web pages is the most important step of each search engine optimization campaign. To show search engines that your website is relevant to a particular topic, optimize as many different pages of your website as possible for as many different keywords as possible.
Search engines must be able to parse your web pages without problems and your keywords should appear in the right places.
Use keywords that are related to your business in your website navigation and link your web pages with meaningful words to make sure that search engines can category your web pages properly.
2. Usability and conversion optimization – Better yet, a Foundation reinforced with rebar!
High rankings on search engines won’t help your website if your website visitors don’t convert. Make sure that your web pages are easy to use. Your website visitors should be able to find what they’re looking for.
Create user friendly web pages that have a professional and trustworthy design. Add a call to action on all important web pages.
The higher the percentage of website visitors who purchase something on your website, the fewer visitors you need for a successful website.
If Google finds several different websites with content that is relevant to a keyword, the web page with the best backlinks will be listed on Google’s result page.
Try to get backlinks from related websites. It also helps to include keywords that are related to your business in the links to your site. Quality is much more important than quantity. A few good links from related websites are better than lots of low quality links.
4. Social ranking elements – Power
Social ranking elements such as the number of Facebook Likes, Google +1 clicks or Twitter mentions are the icing on the cake. These elements won’t get your website on Google’s first result page but they can make the difference between position 1 and 3.
Before you invest your time in social ranking elements, be sure that all other elements are in place. Build it one, build it right, and build it NOW!

Five things that you should know about your White Hat SEO Techniques
1 Unique Vote
This post is a reminder to assess your SEO Activities on a regular basis. What may be a great SEO technique last month may be killing you in Google today. White Hat SEO Techniques are the way to go. Once you go down the slippery road of trying to trick Google, its just a matter of time before you hit a dead end, and sometimes there is no turnaround.
Many webmasters think that SEO has become more difficult after Google’s recent updates. That’s not case if you invest your time in the right things. If you want to be successful with your website, there are five things that you should know.
1. Techniques are continually evolving
Google and other search engines are continually improving their algorithms. Things that work today might not work tomorrow. There is no ‘set and forget’ in search engine optimization. Either stay educated or use an SEO software tool that is continually updated to work with the latest ranking algorithms.
2. It doesn’t pay to game Google
Gaming Google’s ranking algorithm requires a lot more work than following best practices and doing it right the first time. Sooner or later, Google will detect all new spam tricks.
Your website will be penalized then, you will lose a lot of money and you will have to invest a lot of time to get your rankings back. If you play by the rules, you will get much better results that last, even if it takes a little longer to get high rankings.
Companies that promise you instant results for little money are lying to you. Like most things, a successful SEO campaign requires time, effort and a good strategy.
3. Your website is the only thing that you can control
You cannot control what your competitors do, you cannot control what Google does and you also cannot control if some startup will release a tool that will change the market in the near future.
Make sure that your website would offer your website visitors a value even if search engines didn’t exist. Your website is your most important asset. Treat it as such.
4. The content of your website is very important
Getting traffic is pointless if your website is disappointing to your visitors. Low quality content won’t help your rankings. Tell your website visitors why they should use your products or services. Tell them what’s in it for them.
Make sure that your web pages look good and that your landing pages have a high conversion rate.
5. Don’t be distracted by the latest marketing trends
Pinterest? Cool. Microblogs? Nice. Twitter? You bet. Unfortunately, all of these new marketing trends won’t do your website any good if your website basics aren’t right. Half-hearted social media campaigns can also have a negative effect. For your conversion rate, it is often better to do one thing right instead of juggling too many balls at once. Remember to stick with White Hat SEO Techniques
